Andrea,
I just have to let you know, I LOVE your “Culinary Coward” posts on Pauladeen.com! They are so much fun to read and make me laugh til my sides hurt. Every time I read one, I say to myself, “That’s so me”. I’m fairly new to the kitchen and cooking real meals other than boxed meals and microwave “specials”. I’m not great, but getting better, slowly. Some recipes work and I think, “Yes! I rock!” Then others, well, let’s just say I feel like throwing away my cookware (out into the street, so I can run over it) and laying down on my kitchen floor to sob while muttering to myself. Not my best moments, I assure you. I also try to cook more healfully (I joined Weight Watchers back in ’07), which makes cooking “interesting”. My husband loves country, southern style cooking, naturally. So, I’m often cooking two meals or sneaking stuff in on him that he doesn’t realize, ha ha. It’s working out, it just takes time and a lot of planning. We eat a lot of leftovers.
I just had to say thank you for bringing the laughs and the mental pictures. It’s good to know there are others who “struggle” in the kitchen and get frustrated. Please keep it up!
Judi
Judi,
I have found that cooking is like parenting–it’s good to know that others find it difficult! I’m still annoyed every time someone says a recipe is “so easy.” It’s not. Ever. Not for me. I haven’t figured out why I’m so impaired, but I just figured I’m at least making lemonade out of lemons by writing about it. I’m glad you enjoy it. But more than that, I’m glad that you relate!
Forge ahead, sister!
Best,
A
